The annual international Tinbergen Institute (TI) workshop on innovation & regional development has shown over its history of the last 15 years a remarkable vitality and amazing dynamics. ‘In search of excellence’ has always been an important devise, which has attracted scientific talent and prompted international interest. Truly science leaders – Nijkamp, Stough and Stimson, to mention a few – have continuously – and no doubt successfully – put the TI workshop at a high international platform. They realized that science derives its scholarly recognition not from introvert and backward-looking research, but from international openness and global exchange of views and scientific achievements.
The TI workshop is fortunately not a locally oriented research activity. Instead, it is fully connected with world-wide developments taking place elsewhere. The decision to invite to each annual meeting of the TI workshop a great diversity of well-known scholars and experts from all over the world with a focus on various aspects of regional science mirrors the awareness that the TI workshop knows no borders.
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the TI workshop series, there will be a ‘knowledge & diamonds forever’ jubilee party for all our Dutch and foreign colleagues who plan to attend the 2013 workshop on DYNAMICS IN THE ‘NEW URBAN WORLD’: CREATIVITY, CULTURE, ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE. This will be a ‘mobile party‘ on May 28, 2013 from 07.00-09.00 p.m. in the canals of Amsterdam. Furthermore, a plan has been made to compose a special jubilee TI workshop book which would be dedicated to all our colleagues and friends as a sign of respect and collegiality. It will be a symbolic gift – on behalf of the international community – to the Tinbergen Institute.
